Responsibilities:-
- Inspect light tight enclosures to ensure containment of radiation to Class 1 levels.
- Verify interlocks, shutters, barriers, and warning systems are functional.
- Check administrative controls: signage, restricted access, written procedures, and personnel training.
- Confirm PPE availability and use, especially laser protective eyewear.
- Maintain inspection records and corrective action reports.
- Empowered to halt laser operations if unsafe conditions are found
- Acts as the compliance link between operators, management, and regulatory bodies.
Technical Qualifications:
- Laser Safety Officer; a formally designated inspector under ANSI Z136.1 standards
- Technical or scientific background (physics, optics, engineering, or occupational safety).
- Formal training in laser safety principles, hazard evaluation, and control measures.
Certifications:
- Completion of ANSI Z136.1 laser safety training.
- Familiarity with OSHA requirements and institutional policies.
- Documented competency in evaluating Class 4 laser hazards.
